Price is an important factor, and one reason why this might be the first place you have navigated to. We have two main ways to price out the digital part of a project, with the split being proportional to the risk assumed by either party. That is, the more risk we take on, the larger share of revenue we command. Read on to get a clearer picture.
Some of our publishers wish to have the digital work done for free, and we can accommodate. However, as we are taking on the work, and expense, we will take a larger share of the pie. It's only fair. What that means is that digitzation is done for free, and sales can happen with us, you with, or more likely, as a combined effort.
A few publishers we work with want to have greater control of the product, and also want a much larger share of the revenues. We can do this as well. By paying up front, we are compensated for the work, and thus we can offer a terrific ROI. This will depend on volume, but we have done some jobs where the publisher is getting 90%.
We see the revenue share as an equal, 4-way split. That is, there are 4 major parts to every digital project, and all need to be accounted for. The publisher is bringing the content, and typically gets 25% of the net revenue for that. If the publisher has existing sales channels and wishes to host the end product on their site, the possibility is to reap 75% of net. This means shares and splits will vary from 25-75%, depending on the load carried by each party.
25% - content
25% - digitization
25% - hosting/platform
25% - sales
As there are some many options to explore, especially with regards to sales, we have mapped out a "Pricing Matrix" to run through a couple of examples. This is by no means exhaustive or definitive, yet representative of what can be done. Flexibility is always the key, with revenue generation a close second (although you may disagree with that order!). Download this PDF to have a closer look.
